Admir Mehmedi fired a second-half equaliser for Switzerland as they drew 1-1 with Romania in Group A at the Parc des Princes.

Romania, who were beaten 2-1 by France in their opening game at Euro 2016, took the lead after 18 minutes when Bogdan Stancu netted from the penalty spot – just as he had done against the tournament hosts last Friday night.

But Mehmedi then levelled the game after the break as the Swiss moved onto four points from two games, lifting them top of the group, at least until France play later on Wednesday night.

The result puts Switzerland in a great position to qualify for the knockout stages of the European Championship for the first time in their history, while Romania will likely need a win in their final game against Albania to stand a chance to progress to the last-16.
