Lewis Hamilton led from start to finish to win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and close right up on Nico Rosberg in the drivers’ championship.

The Englishman is the first driver ever to win the British round of the F1 world championship three years running at Silverstone.

Rosberg’s lead in the drivers’ championship will now be cut to just four points at the half-way point of the season – and Hamilton might even end up with the lead, as Rosberg faces a potential penalty for getting advice over his pit radio about how to deal with an issue with his gearbox.

Hamilton started on pole, but behind the safety car as heavy rain at lunchtime forced a rolling start to the race.

And he held on comfortably thereafter to lead Rosberg home, with Max Verstappen third – though the Red Bull driver might have done even better having briefly overtaken Rosberg during the race.
